Field Hockey blanks Bryn Mawr, 7-0

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – Ursinus outshot Bryn Mawr 34-1 on Tuesday, as the eighth-ranked Bears (5-1, 2-0 Centennial) defeated the Owls (2-4, 0-2 Centennial) 7-0 at Applebee Field on the Main Line.

Ursinus, who will now face sixth-ranked F&M on Saturday in Lancaster, scored five of its seven goals in the first ten minutes of the contest.

Freshman forward Brooke Overly (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) had a big day, as she scored two goals and assisted on another, while junior forward Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) had a goal and an assist.

Freshman forward Catherine Buczek (Wind Gap, PA./Nazareth) added two assists in the second half for Ursinus.

The Bears got on the board just 2:34 into the contest as junior midfielder Kelsey Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) scored on a shot in the center of the circle, followed by a goal from junior forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) on a Stong assist at 3:25.

Junior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored at 5:29, on a Reed assist, followed by Stong's first goal at 7:30 for a 4-0 lead.

Overly scored her first goal of the game on an assist by sophomore defender Annie Kopera (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) at 9:39 to make the halftime score 5-0.

Overly's second goal came at 46:57 on a corner, passed to her by freshman forward Catherine Buczek (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth).

Overly and Buczek would assist on the last goal of the game, scored by freshman forward Andrew Govannicci (Rutledge, Pa./Strath Haven) at 54:20.

Junior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made one save in the first half, while freshman Sydney Godbey (Mercersburg, Pa./Mercersburg) played the second half.
