Field Hockey wins Centennial opener, 5-0, over Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ninth-ranked Ursinus (4-1, 1-0 Centennial) rebounded from last week's loss with a 5-0 win over Gettysburg (2-3, 0-1 Centennial) on Saturday in the Centennial Conference field hockey opener for both schools.

Junior forward Danielle Stong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) had two goals in the win, with junior midfielder Stephanie Cooper (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West), junior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and sophomore midfielder Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) each scoring a goal as Ursinus outshot the Bullets 36-1 and had a 21-1 advantage on corners.

Steigerwalt scored the first goal of the game 19:10 on a rebound, followed by a penalty stroke from Keenan at 40:59.

Stong scored the first of her two goals at 56:52 on a Steigerwalt assist, with Cooper netting her goal at 61:40 on a deflection.

Stong's second goal came with 1:35 left in the game on a Keenan assist.

Junior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) had two saves in the win.

Ursinus heads to Bryn Mawr on Tuesday.
