ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – Host Elizabethtown scored two goals in the span of less than four minutes in the first half, then held on, as the Blue Jays (2-3) upended tenth-ranked Ursinus (3-1) 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in field hockey action at Wolf Field.
The Bears had 14 penalty corners in the second half, and outshot the Blue Jays 19-14, but could not convert to penalty corners in the final minute.
The lone goal for the Bears came from junior forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) on a junior midfielder Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) assist 12:40 into the game.
Elizabethtown goalkeeper Selene Jones made 14 saves, while Taylor Alwine and Jacki Hikes scored at 22:15 and 26:04 respectively to give the Blue Jays the win.
Junior goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made four saves on the day for Ursinus, who will have the week off before heading to Gettysburg next Saturday.
