Field Hockey's NCAA run ended by Wellesley, 3-0

SALISBURY, Md. – Ursinus College saw its run in the NCAA Division III Field Hockey tournament come to an end on Saturday, as the Bears (15-6) were stopped by Wellesley (17-3) 3-0 at Salisbury.

The Blue will advance to face host Salisbury, a 1-0 winner over Tufts earlier in the day, on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the right to advance to the semifinals.

Wellesley, the champion of the NEWMAC, held Ursinus off the board by owning a 25-7 shot advantage and a 15-4 edge on corners.

Wellesley scored in the 10th minute as Nikki Sharkin scored on a penalty corner on an insert from Courtney Peterson. Peterson would score the Blue's second goal at 21:42 when Sharkin passed her the ball for a 2-0 lead.

Sharkin scored her second goal of the game at 53:05 when she took a cross from Hannah Flesch.

Ursinus held without a shot in the first half, and got seven in the second half but could not get one past Brit Mscisz who had four saves.

Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito made nine saves on the day for the Bears.
