SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Ursinus locked up the number two seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament as the Bears (12-5, 8-2 Centennial) defeated Swarthmore (2-16, 0-10 Centennial) 6-2 on Saturday afternoon in field hockey play.
Ursinus will play Dickinson on Saturday at F&M in the 2/3 game.
Sophomore defender Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) and sophomore forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) each had two goal games, while senior forward Abby Wood (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) and freshman forward Amber Steigerwalt (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) also scored goals in the win. Ursinus had a 41-8 advantage in shots and outcornered the Garnet 21-5.
Keenan scored both of her goals in the first half, at 8:00 and 21:40, while Brakel scored at 31:09 and 39:28 as Ursinus built a 5-0 edge after Steigerwalt scored at 39:28.
Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Cooper (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) and sophomore forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) each had assists.
In goal, sophomore Danielle DeSpirito (Mountaintop, Pa./Crestwood) had five saves in 70 minutes.
