Field Hockey scores late to beat TCNJ, 4-3

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – In a matchup of two ranked teams, 15th-ranked Ursinus scored two goals late in the second half giving the Bears (11-3) a 4-3 win over ninth-ranked The College of New Jersey (13-3) Thursday night at frosty Eleanor Frost Snell Field.

Freshman defender Annie Kopera scored the eventual game-winner with 9:42 left in the game as senior defender Kara Bowen hit the ball directly into the center of the circle giving Kopera a clean shot at the goal.

Ursinus had tied the game at 3-all just two minutes prior when sophomore defender Megan Keenan scored on a penalty stroke.

Trailing 2-1 at intermission, the Lions got goals from junior midfielder Lindsey Hatch and a goal from freshman forward Lexi Smith at 44:08 to take a 3-2 lead.
 
Ursinus led early as freshman forward Amber Steigerwalt scored on a rebound 16:11 into the game. TCNJ tied it at 1-all at 22:50 when junior forward Erin Healy scored on a pass from Smith.

Sophomore forward Devin Brakel gave the Bears a 2-1 halftime lad when she scored on a Keenan assist at 32:44 off of a corner.

In goal, sophomore Danielle DeSpirito made four saves while TCNJ freshman Kelly Schlupp made seven saves.

Ursinus heads to Muhlenberg on Saturday.
