Field Hockey scores eight in win over Washington College

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus set a Centennial Conference record by firing off 59 shots as the 16th-ranked Bears (9-3, 6-1 Centennial) defeated Washington College (3-8, 2-4 Centennial) 8-0 on Wednesday night in field hockey action.

The Bears' 59 shots actually bested the old record, held by Ursinus, of 58 set last season in a win over Neumann.

Junior defender Nora Kornfeld had four assists on the night, while sophomore defender Megan Keenan had two goals, both coming in the second half.

The defense did its job as well, as Washington only had three shots and two shots on goal.

Still, Washington held Ursinus to just two goals in the first half, both coming in a span of 1:04. Sophomore midfielder Stephanie Cooper scored her 11th goal of the season at 243:36 on a tip in off of a pass from sophomore midfielder Kelsey Reed.

Kornfeld assisted on the second goal of the half, coming off of the stuck of freshman forward Amber Steigerwalt

Keenan scored her first goal of the game, and 15th of the season, at 40:22 off of a corner. Kornfeld assisted.

Sophomore forward Devin Brakel would score her ninth goal of the season at 52:39, followed by a goal from Reed at 52:39 for a  5-0 lead.

Keenan's second goal came at 58:22 again off of a corner and from Kornfeld, while Kornfeld assisted on sophomore forward Danielle Stong's goal at 59:49.

The final goal came from senior forward Abby Wood at 64:44 on an assist by freshman midfielder Colleen Leahy.

Sophomore goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito need to only make two saves on the night.

Washington goalkeeper Stephanie Harryman made 27 saves on the night, setting a new career high.

Ursinus will travel to Dickinson on Saturday to face the Red Devils, who are in a first-place tie with F&M atop the Centennial.
