Field Hockey wins Centennial opener over Gettysburg, 5-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A goal and two assists from sophomore defender Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) pushed Ursinus (2-1, 1-0 Centennial) to a win its Centennial opener with a 5-1 victory over Gettysburg (3-2, 0-1 Centennial) on Saturday afternoon at Snell Field.

Keenan scored at 53:54 off of a penalty corner as the Bears had 35 shots on the day, compared to 14 for Gettysburg.

Ursinus struck early as senior defender Kara Bowen (Forty Fort, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) scored on a corner 6:39 into the game on an assist Keenan. Keenan would assist on the next goal at 15:21, as sophomore midfielder Stephanie Cooper (Doylestown, Pa./ Central Bucks West) hit one home for a 2-0 lead. 

Sophomore forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J. / West Windsor Plainsboro North) went the length of the field for Ursinus' third goal of the game at 16:09.

Gettysburg's lone goal came at 28:17 when Erica Barbuto scored unassisted.

The final goal of the day came at 54:56 when junior defender Nora Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) on a corner. 

Ursinus goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood) made eight saves on the day for the win.
