Field Hockey falls in Centennial Semifinals to F&M, 2-0

LANCASTER, Pa. – Top-seeded Franklin and Marshall scored a goal in each half as the Diplomats (17-1) advanced to the 2012 Centennial Conference Field Hockey Championship title game with a 2-0 shutout of Ursinus (11-8) Saturday afternoon.

The Diplomats will take on the winner of Gettysburg-Haverford on Sunday afternoon for the title and the conference's automatic bad.

F&M got on the board first at 9:27 as Kristen Zublin scored her 18th goal of the year as she put in her own rebound. The Diplomats then tacked on another goal at 40:04 when Dana Venditti scored her eighth goal of the year.

Ursinus was outshot 19-5 on the afternoon and had five penalty corners. The Bears had two chances to score off of penalty corners in the 27th and 29th minutes, but, both shots were wide.

Right after the second F&M goal, Ursinus again put two shots on goal, but, both were saved by Diplomat goalkeeper Avery Koep.

Freshman goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made seven saves in the loss.
