Field Hockey punches ticket to playoffs with 2-1 win over Muhlenberg

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College senior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) scored two goals, including the game-winner just two minutes into the second half, as the Bears (10-7, 6-4 Centennial) punched their ticket to the Centennial Conference playoffs with a 2-1 win over Muhlenberg (9-7, 4-6 Centennial) Saturday afternoon.

The Bears' win, combined with losses by Washington and Johns Hopkins, gives the Bears the fourth-seed in the upcoming conference playoffs and they will host Washington on Wednesday afternoon weather permitting.

Bitterly scored 3:20 into the game on a shot from the left side, that found the right rear of the cage.

Muhlenberg tied the score at 1-all 7:27 into the contest when Samantha Swire passed to Kayleigh Thies, who scored near the top of the circle.

Bitterly's game-winning goal at 37:28 was off a deflection. Freshman defender Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had the assist.

Freshman goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made four saves for Ursinus in the win.
