Field Hockey remains unbeaten at home with 3-2 win over Catholic

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus senior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) scored a pair of goals in the second half as the Bears (9-7) defeated The Catholic University of America (9-7) 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon in field hockey action.

Bitterly scored in the 42nd and 45th minutes for the Bears, who remained undefeated at home at 7-0.

Freshman forward Samantha Macchio (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow) added a goal, while junior defender Jenna Stover (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and freshman defender Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) added assists.
Catholic got goals from sophomore forward Rebecca Lukaszczyk and sophomore forward Colleen Harwood in the loss.

Macchio got the Bears on the board first at 3:18 as she scored via a corner with Stover netting the assist. Catholic tied the score right before halftime when Lukaszczyk pushed one in off a rebound with 47 seconds left in the first half.

After Bitterly scored her pair of goals, Harwood scored Catholic's final goal with just 3:27 remaining.

Catholic owned a 21-11 edge on shots and a 7-6 edge on corners.

In goal, freshman Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) had six saves, while junior goalkeeper Megan Comunale had three saves for the Cardinals.

Ursinus hosts Muhlenberg on Saturday.
