Field Hockey gets by Bryn Mawr, 2-1

BRYN MAWR, Pa. – The Ursinus College field hockey team scored two goals in the final eight minutes of the first half as the Bears (6-5, 4-3 Centennial) defeated Bryn Mawr (5-7, 0-5 Centennial) 2-1 on Thursday afternoon.

Senior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and freshman forward Danielle Strong (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area) each scored, with Strong's goal coming at 30:39 on an assist by junior defender Jenna Stover (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield).

Bitterly scored at 27:46 to tie the score, after Bryn Mawr scored at 14:15. The Owls had a final flurry at the end of the game but were not able to convert.

Freshman goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) made two saves in getting the win.

Ursinus will host nationally-ranked William Smith on Saturday, followed by a trip to West Chester on Sunday for the annual Snell Cup game.
