COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus scored five straight goals as the Bears (5-4, 3-2 Centennial) handed 11th-ranked Haverford (8-2, 3-1 Centennial) a 5-1 loss Wednesday night in Centennial Conference field hockey play.
Senior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) had two goals in the first half as Ursinus remained undefeated at home.
Ursinus also got goals from senior midfielder Rachel Pandl (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington), sophomore forward Courtney Scott (Herndon, Pa./Line Mountain) and junior midfielder Jenna Stover (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) in the win.
Freshman defender Megan Keenan (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) had two assists, while junior forward Abby Wood (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) had another.
For Haverford, junior defender Megan Holt had a goal on an assist from senior midfielder Bridget Gibbons.
Bitterly started the scoring with a goal at 6:09 for a 1-0 lead as he drove through the top of circle. Ursinus would score at 7:11 as Pandl scored from the left side of the circle for a 2-0 lead.
Bitterly would score on an assist by Keenan as 22:21 for a 3-0 lead, followed by a goal from Scott on a Wood assist at 33:34 for a 4-0 halftime lead.
Each team added a goal in the second half, as Stover scored at 44:44 on a Keenan assist, followed by Haverford's goal at 53:32.
Both goalkeepers were tested in the second half, as Ursinus sophomore Brittney Dolson (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) made 15 saves in second, while freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Lopes made five saves for Haverford in the second.
Ursinus heads to Johns Hopkins on Saturday.
