Field Hockey downed by Gettysburg, 4-1

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Gettysburg straight goals, including a penalty stroke at the end of the first half, as the Bullets (5-1, 1-0 Centennial) handed Ursinus (2-2, 0-1 Centennial) a 4-1 loss in field hockey play on Saturday.

For Ursinus, the lone goal came in the 40th minute as junior forward Abby Wood (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional) scored her second goal of the season on a scramble following a save. Senior midfielder Rachel Pandl  (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) got the assist.

Both teams were even at 15 shots each.

Gettysburg took a 1-0 lead at 13:23 on a goal by Hayward Sawers on an assist by Liz Baron. Kelly Madden's goal at 24:46 on a pass from Erica Barbuto gave the Bullets a 2-0 lead.

Baron would score Gettysburg's third goal of the game on a penalty stroke just before the half for a 3-0 lead.

Following Wood's goal, Madden scored her second goal of the game on a scramble in front of the cage for a 4-1 Bullets lead.

Sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Dolson (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City) made four saves on the day, while freshman defender Jordan Miller (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) had a defensive save.

Ursinus hosts Swarthmore on Wednesday.
