Field Hockey rolls in home opener, 10-0, over Neumann

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Ursinus College field hockey team blasted 58 shots as the Bears (2-1) defeated Neumann (0-5) 10-0 on Thursday afternoon in the home opener for Ursinus.

Sophomore defender Nora Kornfeld (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Seminary) scored four goals in the contest, with the scoring coming in the 25th, 26th, 46th and 47th minutes of play.

Senior midfielder Rachel Pandl (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) had two goals and an assist, with senior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) adding a goal and two assists.

Three other players scored for Ursinus, with junior forward Abby Wood (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley Regional), freshman forward Devin Brakel (West Windsor, N.J./West Windsor Plainsboro North) and freshman forward Kelsey Reed (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) all scoring.

The ten goals were more than enough for sophomore goalkeepers Brittany Dolson (Gloucester City, N.J./Gloucester City), Paige McElhenny (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor) and freshman goalkeeper Danielle DeSpirito (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) who all combined on the shutout. Dolson and McElhenny each made saves.

Ursinus heads to Gettysburg on Saturday to open up Centennial Conference play.
