Turn of the Century

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Senior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored four goals, including the 100th in her career, as 11th ranked Ursinus (13-3) finished its home slate with an 8-1 non-conference win over Eastern Mennonite (8-10) in field hockey play on Tuesday.

Thren, the all-time leader in goals at Ursinus, became the eighth player in Division III history to record 100 goals. She is also the only Centennial Conference player to cross the 100 mark and is currently second among active players in Division III.

Thren cracked the century mark with 9:35 left in the first half on an assist from junior forward Alex Shafi (Watchung, N.J./Watchung Hills). She had scored her first goal 9:48 into game as Ursinus outshot the Royals 28-13.

Senior forward Corinne Freeman (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vienney) added two goals on Senior Day, with junior midfielder Rachel Pandl  (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) and sophomore forward Abby Wood (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) scoring goals in the win.

Sophomore midfielder Jenna Stover (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), senior defender Nicole Hanby (Bear, Del./William Penn) and Thren all had assists for Ursinus.

Senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East) had five saves. Lukens, Thren, Hanby and senior defender Lauren McGrath (Benton, Pa./Benton Area) were all honored before the game for their four years on the team.

Ursinus travels to Muhlenberg Friday night for the regular season finale. The Bears have no worse than the number two seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs.
