Field Hockey holds off Swarthmore, 6-3

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Second-ranked Ursinus found itself in a dogfight in the first half with Swarthmore on Wednesday afternoon at Clothier Fields. The Bears led the Garnet 2-1 after the first half, but, scored four straight goals as the Bears (6-0, 3-0 Centennial) defeated Swarthmore (1-4, 0-2 Centennial) 6-3 in field hockey play.

Senior forward Corinne Freeman (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vienney) continues to have a strong season, as she scored three goals, while senior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) added in three assists as Freeman scored the first three Ursinus goals. Her goal just 3:22 into the second half turned out to be the game winner.

Junior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) and senior defender Nicole Hanby (Bear, Del./William Penn) also added in goals, while Rachel Pandl had an assists.

With shots even at 16-all, Ursinus got six saves from senior goalkeeper Jill Lukens (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East).

Ursinus hosts F&M on Saturday.
