COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus junior forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson Fair Haven) scored two goals, with three other Bears finding the back of the cage as Ursinus (5-0, 2-0 Centennial) blanked Gettysburg (2-2, 0-1 Centennial) 5-0 on Saturday afternoon in field hockey action at Eleanor Frost Snell Field.
Senior forward Corinne Freeman (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vienney), senior defender Nicole Hanby (Bear, Del./William Penn) and senior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) also scored as Ursinus, ranked third in the country, won its second straight home matchup.
Bitterly scored the game-winner five minutes in as she worked the ball around Bullet goalkeeper Megan Feeg for the opening score of the game. Freeman added in the second goal at 12:42, followed by Hanby's goal at 15:35 on an assist by Freeman for only scoring in the first half.
In the second half, Thren scored at 47 minutes even to push the lead to 4-0, with Bitterly adding in her second goal at 58:37 on an assist by junior midfielder Julie Pilla (Mullica Hill, N.J./Gloucester Catholic).
Freshman goalkeeper Paige McElhenny (Egg Harbor Township, N.J./Egg Harbor Township) made four saves to record her first win of the season.
Ursinus will travel to Swarthmore on Wednesday.
