BALTIMORE, Md. – Third-ranked Ursinus got two goals each from senior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) and junior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) won their 16th straight game with a 4-0 win over Johns Hopkins on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Ursinus (16-1, 10-0 Centennial) clinched the top seed in the upcoming Centennial Conference tournament and will host the semifinals and finals next weekend in Collegeville. Johns Hopkins (11-6, 8-2 Centennial) will be the second seed.
Thren scored the lone goal of the first half on an assist from senior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) at 26:06 on a tip in for the 1-0 lead.
At 48 minutes even, Bayzick scored unassisted off her own rebound for a 2-0 lead, followed by her second goal of the game at 57:19 off of another rebound.
Thren scored at 60:50 for a 4-0 lead, off of an assist from junior forward Corinne Freeman (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vienney).
The defensive unit held Johns Hopkins scoreless as the Blue Jays came into the game averaging just under three goals a contest. The Bears outshot the Blue Jays 47-14, with senior goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George School) making six saves.
Ursinus will host the winner of Wednesday's first round game between Gettysburg and Washington on Saturday morning.
