Fourth-ranked field hockey shuts down William Smith, 4-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College field hockey team picked up a key non-conference win on Saturday, as the fourth-ranked Bears (12-1) defeated 17th-ranked William Smith (10-4) 4-0.

The Bears got two goals from senior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) as Ursinus won for the 12th straight time.

Bayzick scored what turned into the game-winning goal at 4:14 as she took a corner from senior midfielder Bridget Resetco (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West) to give Ursinus a 1-0 lead.

At 25:22, senior midfielder Michelle Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had a penalty stroke to give the Bears a 2-0 lead.

Just 1:48 before halftime, Bayzick scored for the second time in the game, on an assist from Nicole Hanby.

In the second half, Ursinus scored with just 1:27 left as sophomore forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) scored off of a corner.

Senior goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./The George School) had six saves as Ursinus held a 24-10 advantage in shots.
