Field Hockey doubles up F&M, 4-2

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Four different players scored for the Ursinus College field hockey team as the fourth-ranked Bears (9-1, 6-0 Centennial) doubled up 20th-ranked Franklin & Marshall (6-5, 2-3 Centennial) 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The Bears got goals from senior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazelton Area) sophomore forward Rachel Pandl (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington), senior midfielder Michelle Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) and sophomore forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) in the win. Bayzick and junior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had assists.

Bayzick scored the first goal of the game at 1:55 off of a defensive save for a quick 1-0 lead. Pandl scored her goal, on a brilliant assist by Thren, less than 2:30 later for a 2-0 just 4:28 in.

Wimmer's goal, the final Ursinus goal of the first half, came off of a Bayzick corner for a 3-0 lead.

F&M cut the Ursinus lead to 3-1 at 27:05 as Allison McLaren scored on an assist from Chelsey Talhelm.

In the second half, Bitterly scored at 43:17 for a 4-1 Ursinus lead. McLaren would score her second goal of the game on a high-arc shot from the left side at 51:20 to make the final score 4-2.

Ursinus, who outshot the Diplomats 32-3, got one save from senior goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George School).
