Field Hockey blanks Haverford, 7-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus College field hockey senior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and senior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) each had two goals as the Bears (4-1, 2-0 Centennial) defeated Haverford (3-2, 0-1 Centennial) 7-0 on Friday afternoon.

Ursinus held a commanding 46-8 lead on shots in the win, the fourth straight for the Bears.

Yoder added in an assist, with sophomore midfielder Rachel Pandl (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington) getting a goal and an assist for Ursinus.

The Bears took the lead early when Pandl scored on a rebound off of Haverford goalkeeper Maggie Cronin 2:54 in for a 1-0 advantage. The next goal came at 12:09 when Bayzick tapped the ball in the left corner on a pass from Pandl, making it 2-0.

Bayzick's second goal came right before the half as he scored on a tip in from senior midfielder Michelle Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) for a  3-0 halftime advantage.

In the second half, sophomore forward Catherine Bitterly (Rumson, N.J./Rumson-Fair Haven) scored on an assist from senior defender Taylor Weidensaul (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) at 38:11 for a 4-0 lead, followed by a goal from Yoder at 47:14 to make the score 5-0.

At 52:47, junior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored on a brilliant goal where, while diving, she knocked the ball past Cronin for a 6-0 lead. The final goal came from Yoder at 64:03 on an assist from junior forward Corrine Freeman (Freehold, N.J./St. John Vienney).

Senior goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George School) made five saves in posting her second straight shutout.
