Field Hockey gets past Rowan, 2-1

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College field hockey team snagged its first win of 2010, downing ninth-ranked Rowan (2-1) 2-1 on Wednesday night under the lights at Eleanor Frost Snell Field.

The Bears put on a defensive exhibition in the second half, holding Rowan without a shot and limited the Profs to only five in the contest.

Ursinus (1-1) had a 29-5 advantage in shots and a 15-1 advantage in penalty corners.

The scoring started when junior forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) put home a shot off of the pads of Profs goalkeeper Lisa Apt 6:03 in for a 1-0 lead.

The Bears went up 2-0 as senior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had a goal on an assist from junior midfielder Bridget Resetco (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West) from the right corner 16:23 in.

Rowan scored its lone goal at 18:08 when Lauren Ross scored off of an assist from Janna Tighe on a deflection.

Senior goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George School) had three saves for Ursinus, with Apt making 22 stops for the Profs.
