HARRISONBURG, Va. - Traveling close to six hours did not affect
the fifth-ranked Ursinus College field hockey team as the
fifth-ranked Bears (4-2) blanked Eastern Mennonite (2-5) 4-0 in
non-conference play on Saturday.
Sophomore forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper
Perkiomen) had two goals for the Bears, who outshot the
Lady Royals 31-25.
Thren's first goal came at 27:18, followed by her second goal at
28:08 for the 2-0 halftime lead.
Junior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster
Mennonite) scored at 44:32, followed by a goal from junior
midfielder Michelle Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper
Perkiomen) at 46:15 on an assist by Yoder.
Senior goalkeeper Erica Scott (Carney's Point, N.J./St.
Elizabeth) made four saves in 46 minutes, while junior
goalkeeper LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./The
George School) had five saves in 24 minutes of play.
Ursinus will host fourth-ranked The College of New Jersey on
Tuesday night at home.
