GLASSBORO, N.J. - The Ursinus College field hockey team passed
another tough road test on Wednesday, as the third-ranked Bears
(2-1) defeated tenth-ranked Rowan (2-1) 4-3.
Junior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton
Area) scored the game winning goal with 4:03 left to go in
the contest on a shot from the right side of the cage following a
penalty corner. Junior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz,
Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) had the assist on the
game-winning goal.
Rowan took an early 2-0 lead 20 minutes in as Nicole Valianti
scored goals in the tenth and 19th minute.
Ursinus got two straight goals to tie the score at 2-all. The first
goal came off of a deflection by junior midfielder Michelle
Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) at 30:04.
The second goal came at 39:17 when junior midfielder
Bridget Resetco (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown
West) scored on a high shot from the left side on a pass
from Bayzick. Rowan retook the lead at 3-2 when Lauren Ross scored
at 45:34 on an assist from Sam Williams.
Ursinus got the equalizer at 46:45 when sophomore forward
Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored
on an assist from senior forward Jessica Zatwarnicki
(Reading, Pa./Exeter).
Ursinus, who had a 25-11 advantage on shots and a 14-4 advantage on
penalty corners, got six saves from senior goalkeeper Erica
Scott (Carney's Point, N.J./St. Elizabeth).
Ursinus will take part in the Salisbury Invitational this weekend,
by taking on Randolph-Macon on Saturday afternoon at 2.
