SALISBURY, Md. - The Ursinus College field hockey team put on a
defensive display on Saturday afternoon at the Salisbury
Invitational, by blanking Randolph-Macon 6-0 in the first day of
competition.
The Bears (3-1) did not allow the Yellow Jackets a shot on goal,
and just one penalty corner.
For the third-ranked Bears, six different players scored.
The scoring started when junior forward Jennifer Bayzick
(Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) scored 6:18 into the game
for a 1-0 advantage. Junior midfielder Michelle Wimmer
(Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) then scored on an assist from
junior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster
Mennonite) at 16:48 for a 2-0 lead. The lead grew to 3-0
in the first half when senior midfielder Sarah Brant
(Collegeville, Pa./The Hill School) scored unassisted.
Senior forward Jessica Zatwarnicki (Reading,
Pa./Exeter) scored 47 seconds into the second half for a
4-0 lead. The lead went to 5-0 when sophomore forward
Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored,
followed by a goal at 47:00 by senior forward Jen Hooven
(Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic).
Junior LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./George
School) got the win in goal, not having to face a shot for
her first solo shutout of the season.
Ursinus will take on sixth-ranked Salisbury Sunday at 2 p.m. The
Sea Gulls defeated Frostburg, 8-0, in the opening game of the day.
