Bears blank Shorewomen, 9-0; Clinch CC home field

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Third-ranked Ursinus locked up home field advantage for the Centennial Conference playoffs Wednesday night, blanking Washington 9-0 at Eleanor Frost Snell Alumnae Field.

The Bears (15-2, 9-0 Centennial) outshot the Shorewomen (6-10, 3-6 Centennial) 36-7 in the win, and had 20 penalty corners, including 13 in the first half.

Junior midfielder Bridget Resetco (West Chester, Pa./Downingtown West) had three goals, while junior midfielder Megan Yoder (Lititz, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) and senior forward Jessica Zatwarnicki (Reading, Pa./Exeter) each had two assists.

Senior forward Jen Hooven (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) had a goal and two assists.

Ursinus started early, scoring 5:47 into the game as Resetco scored off of a restart for a 1-0 lead. Sophomore forward Alyssa Thren (Barto, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored her league leading 26th goal of the season on a rebound at 9:55 for a 2-0 lead.

Resetco's second goal came at 11:29 on an assist from Zatwarnicki for a 3-0 lead, followed by a goal from Hooven off of a junior back Taylor Weidensaul (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) assist at 12:31 for a 4-0 advantage.

Junior forward Jennifer Bayzick (Sugarloaf, Pa./Hazleton Area) had her ninth goal of the season, on a Hooven assist at 19:09 to make the score 5-0 Bears, followed by a goal from Hooven at 29:25 for a  6-0 halftime edge. Yoder had the assist on the goal.

Just 35 seconds into the second half, junior midfielder Michelle Wimmer (Palm, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) had her 11th goal of the year on an assist from Zatwarnicki for a 7-0 lead.

Resetco's hat trick came at 40:10 on an assist from Yoder for an 8-0 score, followed by a goal form Zatwarnicki at 61:16 for the 9-0 final score.

Three goalkeepers combined on the shutout for Ursinus, senior Erica Scott (Carneys Point, N.J./St. Elizabeth), junior LauraLee Lightwood-Mater (Bethlehem, Pa./The George School) and sophomore Jill Lukens (Furlong, Pa./C.B. East). Scott had one save, while Lightwood-Mater had three.

For Washington, senior goalkeeper Elena Nicholoff had 13 saves, while junior Shannon Davis had four assists in 22 minutes of play.

Ursinus will host 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins at high noon on Saturday.
