Winning Late In The Garden State

EWING, N.J. – After falling behind 14-0 less than ten minutes into the game, Ursinus (1-0) regrouped and rallied for a 24-20 win over The College of New Jersey (0-1) Friday night at Lions Stadium.

The key play was a 45-yard touchdown catch from junior wide out Ryan Lynady (Morrisville, Pa./Notre Dame) with 2:56 left to go in the game from junior quarterback Chris Curran (Oceanview, N.J./Ocean City).

"I've never seen a team battle back from adversity the way our kids did tonight," said Ursinus head coach Peter Gallagher. "We stared adversity in the face and smiled. We have fighters. We have talented players."

Ursinus held the Lions out of the end zone over the last 53:12 of the game, despite being outgained 507 to 427. The Lions ran 94 offensive plays.

Curran finished the game 26-for-47 for 379 yards and three TDs, including two tosses to sophomore wide receiver Darius Jones (Lawnside, N.J./Haddon Heights).

Ursinus also got 15 tackles from sophomore defensive back Matt Glowacki (Spring City, Pa./Spring-Ford).

After trailing 14-0 at the end of the first, Ursinus got on the board on a 15-yard TD pass from Curran to Jones with 11:50 left in the half to make the score 14-7. TCNJ would counter with a field goal from 19-yards out with 8:48 left, before Ursinus got to within three at 17-14 with 1:35 left in the half on a 46-yard pass from Curran to Jones.

Freshman kicker Eric Boyer (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) would tie the score with 6:37 left in the third on a 32-yard field goal.

Ursinus hosts Gettysburg on Saturday in its home opener at 1:00 at Patterson Field.
