Griffith, Murphy Earn ABCA/Rawlings Second Team All-Region Five Honors

ABCA/Rawlings Division III All-Region Teams

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A pair of Ursinus Baseball juniors added to their postseason award accolades on Tuesday afternoon by earning spots on the 2022 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region team. Second baseman Solomon Griffith and starting pitcher Casey Murphy each earned Second Team Honors in Region 5.

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee. Griffith and Murphy become the first selections for the Bears since Alex Mumme earned first team honors in 2019 on his way to becoming the second ABCA All-American selection in program history.

The selection for Griffith came hours after earning Second Team All-Region honors from D3baseball.com. Griffith was the catalyst of the Bears offense this spring by earning All-Centennial Conference First Team honors for the first time in his career. He tallied team-leading numbers with a .357 batting average, 51 total hits, 26 runs scored, and two triples. Griffith also paced the team with a .510 slugging percentage and stole a team-high 15 bases after stealing just one in his first two seasons. He hit two home runs in 2022 and ranked second on the team with 20 RBI's. Griffith reached base safely in each of the last 18 games to close out the season with 14 coming via a base hit.

Murphy was dominant on the mound in 2022 for the Bears as he registered the third-lowest ERA in the Centennial Conference at 2.97.  He went 4-4 in his 10 starts on the season and struck out 58 batters in 60.2 innings to earn All-Centennial Conference first team honors as well. Murphy twirled a pair of complete games for the Bears to become the only pitcher in the conference to have multiple complete games on the season. The Lower Merion graduate was named Centennial Conference pitcher of the week for the week of April 19th.
