COLLEGEVILLE, PA. - The bats came alive for the Ursinus College baseball team on Thursday afternoon as they used 17 hits and a nine-run fifth inning for a 16-3 victory over Rosemont College.

With the win, the Bears improved to 12-23 on the season. Meanwhile, the Ravens of the CSAC (Colonial States Athletic Conference) fell to 4-27 overall.

Dylan Crammer was a spark all game in the leadoff spot collecting four hits in six at bats and collecting three RBI's. Peter Balos, Solomon Griffith, and Nick Diaz each collected two hits as well in the slugfest.

The Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning after Griffith drove in Balos from third base. Ursinus made the score 2-0 in the second inning after Crammer launched a double down the right field line scoring Jakob Cantor from second. Freshman Mike Scheller started on the mound for the Bears and delivered three innings of scoreless pitching, only allowing three hits while striking out two batters.

Ursinus blew open the game in the fifth inning, scoring nine runs on seven hits and two Ravens errors. Diaz, Matteo Falcone, and Andrew Richter started the rally as each singled to load the bases with no outs. Diaz crossed the plate on a wild pitch while both Falcone and Richter scored on errors from the Ravens defense to increase the lead to 6-0. Ursinus blew the game open when Griffith delivered with a triple scoring both Balos and Crammer.

Senior Alex Crocamo earned the win out of the bullpen as he relieved Scheller in the fourth inning and pitched 3.2 innings, only allowing two hits while fanning five Ravens. In the sixth inning, Crocamo used back-to-back strikeouts to keep Rosemont off the board through six frames. Ursinus added five more runs in the seventh inning to jump out to a commanding 16-0 lead. The Bears used hits from Balos, Tim Pyne, and Crammer to drive in their runs.

Rosemont added three combined runs in the eighth and ninth inning to make the final score 16-3.

The Bears will return to action tomorrow as they host Haverford for a 3:30pm start from Thomas Field.
