Baseball Swept vs Catholic

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. - The Ursinus College baseball team struggled in their final series of spring break as Catholic University swept the Bears by a score of 7-0 in game one and 10-0 in game two. Outstanding pitching performances from Catholic's pitchers Tucker Alch and Cormac Terry haulted the Bears offense in the afternoon doubleheader. 

With the loss, the Bears fall to 5-7 on the season and will look to bounce back on Wednesday when they travel to Widener. Meanwhile, the Cardinals improved to 9-5 overall. 

Game One: Catholic 7 Ursinus 0  

Alex Crocamo started on the mound for the Bears and went three innings allowing just three hits and two earned runs. Meanwhile, for the Cardinals Tucker Alch threw a gem, pitching a complete game shutout (7 Innings) allowing just one hit and striking out 12 Bears. Catholic jumped on the board first, scoring two runs in the third inning after a one out single from Ben Nardi scored Derek Zelesnick from third. The Cardinals added an insurance run in the fifth, after Zelesnick led off with a free pass. He advanced to third after two pass balls and scored on a sacrifice fly from Dante Pozzi. Catholic scored two runs in each of the final two innings for their fourth consecutive victory. Crocamo, David Kratz, David Morgan, Connor Bogansky, and Mike Scheller each pitched for Ursinus and combined to allow ten hits and seven free passes while striking out five.  

Game Two: Catholic 10 Ursinus 0 

In game two, T.J. Snyder took the mound for Ursinus and went 2.2 innings allowing five hits while striking out two Cardinals. Catholic took an early 1-0 lead after a one out double from Matt Tesoriero scored Peter Giombetti. Catholic added five more runs in the third behind three hits and two defensive errors from the Bears. Tommy Antonucci knocked in two runs after Burton and Giombetti both scored after an error in right field. Giombetti blasted a home run in the fifth inning to give the Cardinals a 7-0 lead with two innings to play. Catholic added three more runs in the seventh and left Myrtle Beach with a 10-0 victory. Sophomore outfielder Dylan Crammer led the way for the Bears going 2 for 4 at the plate to push his season average up to .317.  

The Bears will return to action on Wednesday as they travel to Widener for a 3:30pm start.
