STEVENSON, MD. - The Ursinus College baseball team earned a Saturday sweep of Stevenson University, winning the opener by a 7-0 score and 9-4 in game two. In the first game, after scoring two runs in the opening frame junior right-hander Casey Murphy took the mound and turned in a gem. He pitched a complete game shutout and fanned five Mustangs while issuing four walks.

Game One : Ursinus 7 Stevenson 0

Ursinus got on the board in the top of the first. With the bases loaded, Tom Snipes drove in Keegan Stem and Jakob Cantor after his double to centerfield. Murphy retired the Mustangs in order in the bottom half of the inning behind a punchout, and two fly outs. Stevenson threatened in the second inning, but after a groundout back to the mound, Murphy escaped with two runners left on base.

The Bears loaded the bases in the third but were unable to score after a fielder's choice with two outs. Ursinus added two more insurance runs in the fourth. Cantor led off the inning with a walk and then stole second. Minnichbach reached first via an error and the Bears had runners on the corners. Snipes delivered again, clearing the bases with a double and Ursinus held a 4-0 advantage. Stevenson led off the fourth with a single from Jonathon Brandt. He would stay stranded at first, as Murphy forced three flyouts to get out of the inning. In the sixth, the Mustangs had runners on second and third, but Murphy would escape trouble as Trevor Smoot popped out to the catcher to end the inning.

Ursinus tacked on three more runs in the seventh to increase their lead to seven. Matteo Falcone led off the inning with a walk and scored on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Solomon Griffith doubled to left field and Cantor and Dylan Crammer crossed the plate. Murphy closed out the game, retiring the Mustangs in order to earn his first career collegiate victory.

In game two, the Bears jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Snipes delivered a single down the left field line. The Mustangs collected three hits in the bottom half of the inning, including a double to center that brought home Jonathen Brandt to make it a 2-1 game.

In the second inning, the Bears hung a four-spot on the board. A Max Gadsden double allowed Dylan Runsdorf to score. In the fifth inning, Tom Snipes blasted a homerun down the right field to give Ursinus a 5-3 edge. Minnichbach followed suit with a double to left center and Falcone drove him in with a single to left. Falcone then scored after Gadsden delivered with a base hit to left field and advanced to second on the throw. Crammer made it a 9-3 ball game after a groundout that allowed Runsdorf to cross the plate. On the mound, Kratz carried the momentum only allowing the Mustangs to reach base once during the fifth and sixth. Stevenson would add a run in the seventh, but Kratz would close out the game after a groundout ended the Mustangs comeback.
