Baseball Fields Four on All-CC Team

LANCASTER, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team was rewarded for a season full of historic offensive performances with four players on the All-Centennial Conference team, including a pair of major award winners.

Junior outfielder Alex Mumme was named player of the year after the best statistical campaign in the history of the program, while freshman first baseman Jon Moldoff took home rookie of the year honors and was selected to the second team. Junior outfielder Dom Fiorentino was also recognized on the second team, and sophomore catcher Tom Jacobs received honorable mention.

Of all the video-game statistics the Bears put up in 2019, Mumme's stood alone. The right-handed slugger set school records for home runs (14), RBI (45), doubles (21), runs (60), and slugging percentage (.844) while matching the mark in hits (65). He led the CC in runs, doubles, RBI, and total bases and ranked second in home runs, hits, and batting average (.422); Mumme leads Division III in runs while sitting fourth in homers and sixth in slugging.

The first Bear to be named player of the year since Richie Barrett in 2001 (and the second overall), Mumme collected his third all-conference laurel and his second consecutive first-team certificate. He is the ninth player in program history to earn multiple first-team honors and will enter his senior season as the program's all-time leader in home runs (26) and doubles (54).

If not for Mumme, Moldoff's debut campaign would have put him atop the single-season charts in RBI after the rookie finished with 44 to place third in the conference. A mainstay in the middle of the order, the left-handed first baseman batted .343 with 10 doubles, two triples, and one home run. The model of consistency, Moldoff had a 10-game hitting streak during the season and produced 15 games with multiple hits.

Moldoff gives Ursinus consecutive rookie of the year honorees, joining pitcher Nolan Graber as the only two players in school history to receive the award.

Fiorentino was an ideal table-setter at the top of the lineup, racking up 10 triples to rank second in the country. The junior batted .353 with eight home runs, tied for second in a single season at Ursinus, nine doubles, and 34 RBI. A potent mix of speed and power, Fiorentino is second in the CC in total bases (108), third in slugging percentage (.692), sixth in home runs, seventh in runs (42), and ninth in stolen bases (13). He is a second team all-conference selection for the second year in a row.

Jacobs made his first All-CC roster after a breakout season in which he established himself as one of the league's top two-way catchers. He was lethal behind the dish, throwing out 18 runners to lead the league and gunning down a remarkable 41.9 percent of potential base-stealers. Jacobs made just two errors all year and posted a fielding percentage of .989.

At the plate, Jacobs finished second on the team with a .389 average and 11 doubles, also recording two home runs and 30 RBI. The sophomore was also second on the squad with a .466 on-base percentage and slugged .546.

Additionally, senior pitcher David Drea was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team. Drea pitched in 13 games this season, tallying a win and 18 strikeouts in 36.2 innings; he finished his career with nine victories and 77 strikeouts.

The Bears finished the 2019 campaign with an 18-18 overall record and a 7-11 mark in conference play.
