GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus baseball team continued to hit the ball all over the yard but couldn't quite complete the sweep as the Bears split a CC doubleheader at Gettysburg.

In the first game, Ursinus (9-13-1, 4-5-1) cruised to a 15-1 victory filled with explosive hitting and a complete game two-hitter from the right arm of freshman pitcher Nolan Graber. A seven-run Gettysburg fifth inning doomed the Bears in the second tilt of the day. The Bullets completed a comeback after they trailed 6-1 at the onset.

Sophomores Mike Stanziale and Alex Mumme swung powerful bats for the Bears in the twin bill. Stanziale went 5-for-10 with five runs batted in and a run scored. Mumme went 5-for-12 with five runs and two RBI on the day.

Game 1: Ursinus 15, Gettysburg 1

The Bears plated three runs in the opening inning and it was enough run support as Graber dominated the Bullets. Fifteen hits and the rookie's continued remarkable pitching solidified the Ursinus win.

Graber (3-2) faced four hitters over the minimum on his way to another excellent pitching effort. The freshman only allowed singles in the second and third innings. Graber allowed one unearned run in the third that reached base on an error. His command was impeccable as he gave out zero free passes and struck out four.

Over the course of Graber's last three extended outings, he's won all three games and logged 23 innings, yielding 13 hits and five runs (one earned) while walking one batter and striking out 11.

Gettysburg (8-18, 2-8) scored its only run in the third and the Bears responded with a seven spot in the fourth to separate from the Bullets. The Bears sent 12 hitters to the plate, collecting five hits as they took advantage of two Gettysburg errors in the inning. Mumme had a two-run single and junior Carter Usowski added a two-run double in the outburst.

The Bears added five total runs from the seventh to ninth inning to add to their big lead.

Ursinus had it clicking on all cylinders as the top of the order continued its red-hot hitting. Mumme, Stanziale, and fellow sophomore Dom Fiorentino all had three-hit games, and Mumme came around to score four times. Usowski drove in three runs and scored three times in a 2-for-5 game, and senior Travis Kozak also crossed for three runs.

Game 2: Gettysburg 11, Ursinus 7

The Bears jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as lead-off hitter Kozak was beaned. Usowski followed by reaching on a throwing error before Stanziale doubled, knocking in Kozak and Usowski.

In the second, Ursinus added a run, and three more came across in the third. Stanziale homered to center, part of his three-RBI effort and making the dinger his second in as many days to add to the lead, 4-0.

Fiorentino tripled to left center before freshman Jerry Scavone singled up the middle for an RBI. Junior Drew Roesch's RBI groundout knocked in Scavone.

The Bullets put a run on the board courtesy of Harrison Quimby's home run to center. The Bears headed into the bottom of the fifth with a 6-1 lead before Gettysburg took an 8-6 lead after plating seven runs, forcing Ursinus to use three pitchers in the inning. Twelve Bullets came to the plate as they registered seven hits in the wild frame, and the big blow was a two-out, bases-clearing double by Matt Szczesny.

Ursinus responded with a run in the sixth, but Gettysburg plated two in the bottom half to get the score to 10-7. Josh Cubell's sacrifice bunt plated Szczesny to lead by four runs, 11-7.

Gettysburg reliever John Braun (1-0) earned the win with two innings of work. Braun gave up one run on three hits while walking one and striking out one. Brendan Wright picked up the save with 1 1/3 innings of work giving up a hit and striking out one.

The Bears got contributions from freshmen Eric Gross and Jacobs as they each went 3-for-4 to lead a 14-hit attack.
