Kurey Named Academic All-Area

PHILADELPHIA – Ursinus College baseball graduate Austin Kurey was honored with inclusion on the Philadelphia Inquirer Baseball Academic All-Area Team.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. The All-Area team is selected through voting conducted by the sports information offices of 30 institutions in the Philadelphia Metropolitan area.

Kurey finished his career on a high note, garnering first team All-Centennial Conference honors after a standout season that resulted in career highs in batting average (.312), hits (43), runs (29), doubles (9), home runs (4), RBI (24), on-base percentage (.370), and slugging percentage (.478). His previous bests were a .250 average, .337 on-base percentage, .337 slugging percentage, 23 hits, and 17 runs.

The first baseman tied for the team lead with four home runs, one of them coming in a 6-4 victory over Haverford that vaulted Ursinus into the conference championship for the first time in a decade. Kurey also finished 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI in the playoff-clinching win at Washington College, when he recorded his 100th career hit.
