Baseball three better than New York University, 8-5

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – A five-run second inning was more than enough for the Ursinus College baseball team as the Bears (18-15) closed out the 2015 season with an 8-5 win over New York University (19-21) Monday afternoon in non-conference play.

The Bears took advantage of two errors in the inning as they batted around to score the five runs.

Ursinus added three more in the fourth as the Bears knocked out nine hits on the day.

Sophomore catcher Avery Perez (Long Island City, N.Y./The Beacon School) went 3-for-3 with two RBI and run scored, while junior shortstop Devyn Kerr (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) went 2-for5 with two run scored.

In the second, Kerr led off the inning with a triple to right, then scored on a fielding error. Sophomore designated hitter Jay Farrell (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal Academy) would later score on another fielding error on a bunt. Sophomore right fielder Austin Kurey (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) then hit a two-run double that scored Perez and sophomore third baseman CJ Diana (Chester, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).

Kurey would score on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore second baseman Kieren Geyer (Redding, Conn./Joel Barlow).

In the fourth, sophomore left fielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) singled home junior first baseman Christopher Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep). Muro would later score on a two-run single by Perez,that also scored Kerr.

Sophomore Connor Moriarty (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) got the win, finishing at 3-1. He threw five innings, striking out two and walking four. Senior Alex Manacher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to get his third save of the year.
