A Green Terror Sweep

A Green Terror Sweep

The Green Terror of McDaniel College not only punched their ticket to the Centennial Conference Playoffs against the Bears of Ursinus but did so by sweeping them with scores of 8-2 and a dramatic come from behind 5-3 win on Senior Day.

The first game was not greatly played by both teams as a total of six errors were committed. However, McDaniel found their offense when they needed it and the fourth inning was that time.

In a tied ball game the Green Terror bats turned hot while the Bears defense turned cold. An errant throw led to two unearned McDaniel runs to give them the 2-0 lead. McDaniel never looked back after that and would tack on six more runs before the game was over.

Ursinus tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 5th but only ever got it as close as 5-2 when the Bears capitalized on two McDaniel errors.

The second game started off much better for the Bears as they jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Junior pitcher Vince Piccioni (Havertown, PA) turned in a great effort going 6 IP, giving up 8 hits, 2 runs, with a strikeout.

The offense exploded out the gates scoring in three of the first five innings. Junior 1B Chris Jablonski (Galloway, NJ) drove in one of the Bears 3 runs and went 2-4 at the plate for the game.

However, once again the bats of McDaniel came to life when they had to and in the 8th inning they exploded for 3 runs. Antonio Rosanova hammered a double to left to drive in three ones to give the Green Terror the lead, which they never relinquished.

Ursinus fans did get to honor their 5 seniors as each one came out of the game for the final time. James Hoff, Vince Rondolone, Alex Manacher, Devyn Kerr, and manager Joe McGinley each received standing ovations as they were pulled off one by one in the final innings and gave one final waive to the faithful fans of the Ursinus Men's Baseball Team.

The wins moved McDaniel to 18-12 overall and 11-9 in the conference. Meanwhile Ursinus fell to 17-15 on the year and 7-11 in the Centennial Conference. The Bears will host on more game on Monday April 27th at 4:00 PM against New York University.
