Shining on Saturday

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Facing a stretch of six Centennial – and critical – games, the Ursinus College baseball team got started off on the right foot with a sweep of Dickinson Saturday afternoon at Thomas Field.

In game one, junior right hander Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) held the Red Devils to just five hits in a 2-1 win, while in game two, Ursinus (14-6, 4-3 Centennial) scored seven runs in the last two innings to erase 3-2 deficit in a 9-3 win over the Red Devils (10-14-1, 4-4-1 Centennial).

The opener saw Pisik improve to 4-0 with a seven strikeout, one walk, five-hit performance. The Bears gave him all the offense he would need in the fourth as sophomore designated hitter Austin Feuerman (Columbia, Md./Atholton) homered to right field scoring junior first baseman Christopher Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) who reached on an error.

Dickinson would get its run in the fifth when shortstop Steven Haynes tripled to right center to start the inning, then scored on a single by left fielder Mike DeVivo. DeVivo finished with two hits for the Red Devils in the opener.

Sophomore catcher Vincent Terry (Beesley's Point, N.J./Ocean City) went 2-for-4 in game one.

In game two, Ursinus fell behind 2-0 after the top of the fifth, before tying the game at 2-all in the bottom of the fifth on a pinch hit RBI double by sophomore Greg Petorak (Trucksville, Pa./Dallas) and an RBI bunt by sophomore left fielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield).

After Dickinson took a 3-2 lead after six, Ursinus got a RBI double by shortstop Devyn Kerr (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), who later scored on an error. Senior infielder Vince Rondolone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School) later doubled home sophomore outfielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) for a  5-3 lead.

In the eighth, Ursinus poured on four more runs as Terry scored on a wild pitch, Rondolone had a fielders choice RBI and sophomore infielder CJ Diana (Chester, N.J./Seton Hall Prep) had a RBI single. Sophomore outfielder Jose Colon (Bay Shore, N.Y./Bay Shore) scored on an error.

Freshman right hander Pierce Greenleaf (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) got the win, allowing just one walk in 1.1 innings of work. Sophomore right hander Connor Moriarty (Mahwah, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) went 5.2 innings, striking out five. Senior right hander Alex Manacher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) got his third save of the season, pitching a clean two innings.

Colon and Kerr had two hits in game two, while Rondolone had two RBI. Dickinson got two hits from Haynes and Austin Sumners.

Ursinus will play two at Gettysburg Sunday, before finishing the F&M series on Monday and beginning the Haverford series on Tuesday.
