Baseball falls to PSU-Berks, 11-8

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Penn State-Berks scored nine of its 11 runs over the last three innings as the Nittany Lions (6-9-1) defeated Ursinus (12-5) 11-8 in a non-conference slug fest on Monday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions got a grand slam Alex Doyle in the eighth inning, part of a five run inning which gave them the lead for good. Doyle, who came into the game as a pinch hitter, finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Ursinus saw left fielder Timo Muro go 3-for-5 with two runs scored, while first baseman Chris Jablonski went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two home runs. Designated hitter James Hoff went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored.

For Ursinus, Billie Buckwalter took the loss he gave up three earned runs in the eighth. Steve Koenig got the win for the Nittany Lions in relief, going the final 6.2 innings striking out seven.

Ursinus begins a two-game series with Franklin & Marshall Tuesday.
