Baseball splits with Washington

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Ursinus College baseball team split its Centennial Conference doubleheader on Saturday at Athey Park with Washington College.

In game one, solid pitching gave the Bears a 4-0 win, while in game two, the Shoremen (13-5, 5-1 Centennial) scored three runs over the sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-4 win over Ursinus (12-4, 2-2 Centennial).

In game one, junior right hander Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) went the distance allowing just five hits while striking out seven to improve to 3-0 on the year.

Ursinus provided him with plenty of offense, as sophomore third baseman Alex Campbell (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) doubled in the first inning scoring junior first baseman Christopher Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep).

In the fifth, Ursinus went up 2-0 when Jablonski doubled scoring sophomore shortstop CJ Diana (Chester, N.J./Seton Hall Prep).

In the seventh, Ursinus got two more when Jablonski doubled scoring senior second baseman Vince Rondolone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School), then he would later score on a fielders choice RBI by Campbell. Rondolone, Jablonski and Campbell each had two hits in the opener.

In the nightcap, Washington College went up 4-0 after three innings, before Ursinus got one back in the fifth when sophomore catcher Avery Perez (Long Island City, N.Y./The Beacon School) singled scoring Campbell.

Ursinus got one in the eighth on a RBI fielders choice by senior pinch hitter James Hoff (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) that scored Diana. In the ninth, sophomore right fielder Austin Kurey (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore pinch hitter Jay Farrell (Newtown Square, Pa./Episcopal Academy).

Freshman right hander Pierce Greenleaf (Exton, Pa./Downingtown East) took the loss, falling to 1-1 on the year. He struck out two and walked two.

Sophomore left fielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) went 3-for-4 in game two.
