Baseball splits series with Muhlenberg with 3-1 win in Lehigh Valley

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – A two-run opposite field home run by junior first baseman Chris Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) helped pace Ursinus (11-3, 1-1 Centennial) to a 3-1 win over Muhlenberg (6-10, 1-3 Centennial) in Centennial baseball action on Thursday at Cedarcreek Field.

Jablonski's two-run homer in the third inning scored sophomore right fielder Timo Muro (Ridgefield, Conn./Ridgefield) to give the Bears a 2-0 lead. Ursinus pushed one across in the fourth when senior third baseman Vince Rondolone (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School) singled to left center scoring sophomore pinch hitter Austin Feuerman (Columbia, Md./Atholton).

That was more than enough for junior right handed starter Vince Piccioni (Havertown, Pa./Haverford School), who improved to 3-1 with a five hit, five strikeout performance in 6.2 innings. Senior right hander Alex Manacher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) got his second save of the season, scattering two hits in 2.1 innings of work.

Muhlenberg got to within two at 3-1 in the seventh with Jimmy Cody reached on an error scoring Kurt Johnson. The Mules threatened in the ninth with two out, but, Jablonski made a diving catch in foul ground to end the game.

Rondolone finished with two hits and an RBI for the Bears, who head to Washington College on Saturday.
