Haverford beats Baseball, 4-1, in 11 innings

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – With two outs, Haverford plated three runs in the top of the 11th as the Fords (24-7, 9-5 Centennial) defeated Ursinus (6-24, 2-12 Centennial) in baseball action on Monday.

The Fords got three hits from junior first baseman Justin Coulter and a two-run single from junior third baseman William Bannard in the 11th to put the game away.

The Fords were held off the board until the ninth inning by Ursinus senior right hander Jake Kohler. Kohler, who pitched ten innings, struck out four and walked one.

Ursinus took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when freshman first baseman Chris Jablonski singled home junior second baseman Ralph Aurora with two outs.

Kohler then benefited from some great defensive plays to keep Haverford off the board including a pickoff and two caught stealing plays from senior catcher Kevin Wilson.

After Haverford scored with one out to tie it in the ninth, the Fords nearly took the lead but senior centerfielder Josh Schnell made an over the shoulder catch in deep center to save the run.

Schnell and sophomore right fielder James Hoff also had hits for the Bears.

Junior left hander Chris Ryder took the loss in relief of Kohler.

For Haverford, sophomore Casey Fox got the win, while senior Kevin Goff picked up the save.

Ursinus will host Swarthmore Tuesday.
