Baseball falls to F&M, 12-4

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Visiting Franklin & Marshall grabbed the first game of the two game series with Ursinus on Tuesday with a 12-4 win at Thomas Field.

The Diplomats (13-12, 4-3 Centennial) got 14 hits and scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning to break the game open. Four players had two hits each, including senior second baseman Aaron Gillette who finished with four RBI including a three-run triple to right field in the seventh inning.

Ursinus (6-15, 2-5 Centennial) was led by two hits each from sophomore right fielder James Hoff (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford), junior second baseman Ralph Aurora (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) and sophomore shortstop Alex Manacher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township). Ursinus plated four runs in the eighth, anchored by a two-run single from Hoff.

Senior left hander A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) took the loss as he allowed five earned runs in six innings while striking out two.

For the Diplomats, junior right hander Alex Guerra struck out ten in seven innings of work.

The two teams will finish their series on Friday in Lancaster, but Ursinus will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday afternoon.
