Baseball nets 4-1 win over Muhlenberg

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Ursinus senior right handed pitcher Jake Kohler (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) scattered ten hits, allowed just one run and struck out two as he helped Ursinus (5-13, 1-3 Centennial) snap a three-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Muhlenberg (14-9, 2-2 Centennial) on Friday afternoon.

Kohler went the whole way, throwing 132 pitches in moving to 2-2 on the season.

Ursinus got three hits from junior second baseman Ralph Aurora (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro), and two hits each from freshman first baseman Chris Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) and sophomore left fielder Chris Menzies (Manassas,
Va./Osbourn Park).

Muhlenberg got three hits from sophomore designated hitter Nick Plinio.

The Mules took the lead in the top of the first when Plinio doubled home senior right fielder Joseph Vila.

Ursinus tied the score in the bottom of the inning when Jablonski singled home Aurora. The Bears then took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when sophomore shortstop Alex Manacher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) scored on a bunt play by freshman third baseman Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee) for a  2-1 lead. 

In the fifth, Ursinus went up 3-1 when Aurora scored on a wild pitch. He would add another run in the seventh on a RBI double by Jablonski.Kohler got aided by great defensive plays as Ursinus turned four double plays on the afternoon.

For Muhlenberg, sophomore right handed pitcher David Anderson took the loss falling to 2-2. He struck out seven and walked one in 6.2 innings.

Ursinus heads to Washington on Saturday for a doubleheader.
