Baseball swept by Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team dropped its first Centennial Conference doubleheader of the season on Saturday, falling to Gettysburg 15-4 and 11-3 in a pair of games.

Ursinus (4-12, 0-2 Centennial) fell behind in the first game but scored one in the seventh and four in the ninth. Sophomore right fielder James Hoff (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) was 3-for-4 in the opener with a run scored and four RBI, while senior catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Hoff had two doubles while Wilson grabbed one.

Senior left handed pitcher A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) took the loss, falling to 0-4. The Bears used six pitchers in the first game.

The nightcap saw Ursinus fall behind early, but, rally to within one at 4-3 in the third inning. Gettysburg (14-6, 2-0 Centennial) scored four times in the fifth and three times in the eighth in game two.

Hoff and Wilson, along with junior designated hitter Jake Neiman (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) each had two hits for the Bears in the loss. Junior right handed Steve Berardi (Hartsville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) dropped to 0-3, as he went 4.1 innings striking out four.

Ursinus heads to Muhlenberg on Tuesday.
