Baseball drops a pair of PSU-Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. – The Ursinus College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to PSU-Abington on Sunday afternoon. 

The Bears, playing two seven inning games, dropped the first one 6-5 in eight innings, while dropping a 5-4 decision in game two.

In the opener, Ursinus trailed 4-0 after three innings before striking back with two runs in the top of the fourth. Sophomore left fielder John Roda (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) had a one-out RBI single that scored sophomore designated hitter Chris Menzies (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park). Roda would later score on a RBI double by sophomore right fielder James Hoff (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford). 

Trailing 5-2 heading into the seventh, Ursinus tied up the score in the top of the inning as senior catcher Kevin Wilson (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick) and Menzies hit RBI singles scoring junior centerfielder Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and senior shortstop Jake Kohler (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin).

Freshman first baseman Chris Jablonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep) would tie the score when he scored on a sacrifice fly by sophomore third baseman Alex Manacher (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township). 

Menzies and junior second baseman Ralph Aurora (Plainsboro, N.J./West Windsor-Plainsboro) each finished with two hits on the day.

Senior right hander Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) took the loss in relief of junior right hander Steve Berardi (Hartsville, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep). Berardi pitched seven innings, walking five and striking out four. 

In game two, Ursinus again trailed after three innings before striking back with three runs in the top of the fourth and one more in the fourth. In the third, Schnell had a two-run single scoring Manacher and Hoff. Aurora would later score on a sacrifice fly by Jablonski.

In the fourth, junior left fielder Jake Neiman (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) scoed on a RBI single by Manacher. 

Freshman pitcher Sean Pisik (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesse) took the loss in relief of junior LHP Chris Ryder (Douglassville, Pa./Holy Name). Ryder pitched 3.2 innings striking out two and walking two. Pisik pitched strong, allowing just four hits and no earned runs in five innings of relief.

Jablonski, Neiman and Manacher each finished with two hits.
