Baseball swept by Stockton

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- Richard Stockton swept a pair of games from Ursinus on Saturday afternoon in non-conference baseball action at Thomas Field.

Ursinus dropped the first game 8-1, while the Bears (3-8) fell in game two to the Ospreys (12-7) 6-1.

In game one, Stockton took a 3-0 lead after three innings as sophomore infielder Brett Solomen singled to center field with one out scoring junior outfielder Mike Bush.

In the third, Solomen drove in another run on a sacrifice fly that scored senior outfielder Barry Larro.

A two-run home run in the fourth by senior designated hitter Shawn Kessler gave Stockton a 4-0 lead, while the lead grew to 5-0 when junior second baseman Luke Root scored on a wild pitch.

In the sixth, Larro doubled scoring sophomore shortstop Mark Jankowski and Kessler, while Larro would later scored on a sacrifice fly by Root.

Ursinus got on the board in the seventh as sophomore left fielder James Hoff (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford) drove in freshman first baseman Chris Jabonski (Galloway, N.J./St. Augustine Prep). Jabonski finished with two hits in the opener.

The eight runs were more than enough for senior right hander Gage Mick as he allowed just four hits a complete game win. He struck out five and walked two.

Senior right hander Jake Kohler (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) took the loss, falling to 1-2. He struck out three and walked two in six innings of work.

In game two, Stockton again took a 3-0 lead after two innings as Bush scored on a sacrifice bunt by Solomen in the first, while Larro scored on an error.

Stockton added one more in the fourth on a double by sophomore catcher Andy Oliver, and three more in the sixth on RBIs from Bush and a two-run single by Larro.

Ursinus scored its lone run in the sixth as junior centerfielder Josh Schnell (Glibertsville, Pa./Boyertown) scored on an error.

Junior left hander Adam Warburton moved to 2-2 on the year with a complete game seven-hitter. He struck out three and walked none.

Senior left hander A.J. Wright (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) took the loss for Ursinus, falling to 0-3. He struck out one and walked four in 5.1 innings of work. Senior right hander Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) (0.2 IP, 1K) and senior right hander Allen Weaver (Lemoyne, Pa./Trinity) (1 IP, 1 BB) pitched in relief.

In game two, freshman shortstop Devyn Kerr (East Greenville, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) was 2-for-4 while Jablonski was 2-for-3.

Ursinus will head to PSU-Abington on Sunday for another doubleheader.
