Night "Ryder"

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Ursinus banged out 11 hits and scored 16 runs as the Bears (2-2) defeated Emerson (2-2) 16-1 Monday night in baseball action at the Ripken Experience Complex.

Junior pitcher Chris Ryder started off the season right by throwing a three-hit, ten strikeout performance over seven innings of work. He walked just one batter and allowed one unearned run in the win.

Six different players got hits for Ursinus, including three hits from sophomore James Hoff and two from junior Josh Schnell, senior Kevin Wilson and freshman Sean Pisik. Schnell had two doubles and two RBI, while Wilson and sophomore Vince Rondolone had three RBI each for the Bears.

Ursinus darted out to a 6-0 lead after three and had a 12-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bears also took advantage of eight hit batters on the night in earning their second win of the season.

In relief, senior Allen Weaver struck out two in the eighth and freshman Paul Buckley went 1-2-3 in the ninth in his first collegiate appearance.

Ursinus gets back to action on Thursday with games against Catholic and Mount Alyosius.
