End of An Era

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Neumann (28-11) scored six of its nine runs over the final four innings as the Knights handed Ursinus (18-22) a 9-6 loss in non-conference baseball play Tuesday afternoon.

For Ursinus, the Bears finished with ten hits as they had a 4-0 lead after three innings. Freshman catcher Chris Menzies (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) and sophomore left fielder Jake Skolnick (Newtown, Pa./George School) finished with two each each, while senior centerfielder Ben Gresh (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) finished with two RBI.

Senior shortstop Brandon Sullivan (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) went 1-for-1 in his lone at-bat, finishing the season with 50 hits.

Junior right hander Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) took the loss, falling to 0-2. He gave up three earned runs in six innings of work, while striking out and walking two.

Tuesday also marked the final game for head coach Brian Thomas. Thomas, who had the field dedicated in his honor on Saturday, is retiring after 23 years at the helm of the program. Thomas led the Bears to three Centennial Conference titles and was the Coach of the Year in 2009.
