DeSales downs Baseball, 13-7

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Visiting DeSales pounded out 22 hits as the Bulldogs (22-11) defeated Ursinus (13-18) 13-7 on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference baseball play.

The Bears led 2-1 after three innings, and did rally to within three at 10-7 after the eighth inning.

For Ursinus, sophomore centerfielder Drae Lewis (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) went 2-for-3 with three RBI, while freshman catcher Chris Menzies (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) went 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored in the loss.

Ursinus took that 2-1 lead in the third as Lewis hit a sacrifice fly that scored freshman catcher James Hoff (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford), followed by a RBI single by sophomore first baseman Jake Neiman (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) that scored sophomore designated hitter Josh Schnell (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown).

Ursinus four runs in the eighth came from Menzies who had a two-run double and RBI hits by Schnell and Lewis.

On the mound, junior right hander Ryan Furlong (Douglaston, N.Y./Xavier) took the loss, falling to 0-1. In 5.2 innings, he struck out four and walked one while giving up four earned runs.

Ursinus is right back at it Thursday, traveling to Penn State-Brandywine.
